- Understand basic epidemiology, anatomy and pathophysiology of traumatic spinal cord injury, including primary and secondary injuries
- Imaging for suspected spinal cord injury and C spine clearance
- Emergency management of traumatic spinal cord injuries
- Intensive care management of spinal cord injuries
- Assessment and classification of spinal cord injury using the ASIA grades
- Awareness of various spinal cord syndromes
- Appreciate factors involved in long term management of spinal cord injuries
Spinal cord injury can have devastating medical and social consequences for those who are affected. Specialist and prompt medical care has the ability to improve functional outcomes. Spinal cord injuries can be traumatic (e.g. after fall, motor vehicle accident) or non-traumatic (e.g. tumours, demyelination)
